The Minister of Women's Affairs meets with the Moon Ladies Group in Jericho and the Jordan Valley.

The Minister of Women’s Affairs A. Mona AL Khalili met with members of the Moon Ladies Group, which brings together a number of women from Jericho and the Jordan Valley working across various institutions and sectors. The meeting aimed to learn more about the group’s work and activities and to explore opportunities for coordination and cooperation on issues and programmes related to women and adolescent girls.

Minister Al Khalili welcomed the members of the Moon Ladies Group and commended their efforts and initiatives, particularly those focusing on psychosocial support, community participation, empowerment, and training. She stressed the importance of such efforts in strengthening the presence and participation of women and adolescent girls, as well as the importance of building on and further developing existing initiatives through cooperation and coordination among relevant stakeholders.

Ms. Maryam Abu Farah, Secretary of the Moon Association in Jericho and Coordinator of the Moon Ladies Group, provided an overview of the group’s work, its establishment, and its main programmes and activities. The group focus on community participation and psychosocial support delivered through specialized facilitators, as well as training, capacity-building, and digital empowerment. She also highlighted the group’s interest in developing new initiatives that serve women and adolescent girls. Abu Farah further proposed the establishment of a Women’s Advisory Council bringing together women with diverse expertise, with the aim of strengthening consultation, knowledge exchange and promoting the participatory development of ideas, initiatives, and programmes.

In this context, Minister Al Khalili stressed the importance of ensuring the proposal of establishing Women’s Advisory Council follows the official procedures and channels, and thoroughly will take into consideration the coordination with the Jericho and Jordan Valley Governorate, women’s institutions, and other relevant stakeholders. Al khalili noted, this would ensure the initiative is grounded in partnership, consensus, collective action, and complementarity among different efforts, thereby, enhancing its effectiveness and sustainability.

During the meeting, the Minister also outlined the Ministry of Women’s Affairs efforts and key areas of work, reaffirming the Ministry’s readiness to cooperate with various institutions, groups, and initiatives working to advance women’s empowerment and participation, and to support ideas and initiatives that can be developed and implemented through institutional partnerships and coordination.
